CASTE BASED CENSUS

Indian census is a wonder in itself. To update the records of such huge mass every 10 years is no easy task. And the fact that this process has been carried out regularly without disruptions has made it well known across the world.

The new step likely to be taken by the government is to carry out caste-based census. That is to classify its citizens on the basis of caste, when the whole world is fighting to get rid of this dirty system followed by mankind!
The government should try to eradicate caste system from the society instead of indulging in such acts to strengthen these practices.

The reasons given by the law minister Mr.Veerappa Moily are not justifiable.
He gives figures stating that population of lower caste people is less and that the supreme court may, in future, ask for caste statistics when the government would try bringing any law for them. And that since 1931 there has been no data collected on castes in India.
The only question that arises is " Why do we need data on castes?"
On one side the UPA government claims to be SECULAR and on the other it continues its vote-bank politics by dividing the nation on caste and religion.

India can never be a peaceful and developed nation without curbing casteism
